Services

The aim of an occupational medical is to establish a baseline of the individual’s health against which future health screening results can be compared.  These tests are crucial to detect harmfull effects of specific hazards in the work place. It is not an examination that is performed by a general practitioner who will detect just any illness. Some of these hazards can include Noise Inducing Hearing Loss (NIHL), vision impairment, asbestos, lead, hazardous materials and chemicals as well as certain biological agents.  By law employers have a duty of care under the Occupational Health and Safety Amendment Act No. 181 of 1993 Section 8, to take all reasonably practicable steps to provide a working environment that is healthy, safe and without risks to the health of employees, contractors or other persons in or near the workplace. Medical surveillance is required to be carried out in workplaces where workers are exposed to certain workplace hazards. Timely health screenings by an Occupational Health Company can help identify any health hazards arising from the working environment or job tasks.

Occupational Medical Screening Service

Occupational medicals are designed to evaluate whether an employee is fit and capable to safely perform his/her daily tasks as an employee in a specific work environment.

The occupational medical examination performed is a non-invasive health screening to help better understand risks that might occur in the workplace, which in turn minimizes the risk factors to the employees. Some industries have special requirements for their standard occupational medical examination. We can accommodate all occupational medicals.

Occupational Medical Blood Pressure Examination

Occupational Medical Examinations can be carried out at the following intervals:

  • Pre-employment medical exam

  • Annual medical exam

  • Exit medical exam

  • After long periods of absenteeism

  • After injuries on duty

  • After the employee has had any injuries or illnesses

Pre-employment Medical Exam:

Many companies require medical clearances for their employees. They generally require a pre-employment screening for all new hires. This medical may be required by the Department of Labour (DOL) or the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR). Although the pre-employment medical exam is very similar to an annual medical exam, the pre-employment medical can be used to determine a baseline at the time of employment. With these medical examination records the employer and employee can track changes in the improvement or worsening of the worker’s health.

Annual Medical Exam:

The annual medical exam is an important part of maintaining occupational health and safety. The medical exam helps determine if the employee is free of any contagious diseases that may harm patients. This is why annual health screenings are crucial for workplace and employee health and safety. But if there are specific OHS standards for the position, then additional and more comprehensive annual testing may be required.

Exit Medical Exam:

When an employment contract comes to an end an exit medical examination can help ensure that the employer and the employee are covered. This is especially helpful when exiting a position involving high-risk hazards for example chemicals, noise, challenging physical environments or other safety issues on site.
